Question

How do we install a scanner driver as an ISIS protocol?

asked on July 13, 2021

We have a customer that was having trouble installing a scanner on a new machine using the ISIS protocol instead of twain.

I looked at it with them. We visited the scanner manufactures site and ensured we were downloading a driver that included ISIS as a protocol along with TWAIN and WIA. It is a one package does it all deal, they are not separate downloads.

As we went through the installation wizard we made sure there was no where to click where we needed to enable ISIS specifically. It seemed we had successfully installed an ISIS driver.

Windows Driver details do not specify these protocols though, so hard to tell for sure.

However in Quickfields when choosing scan connect no ISIS drivers are detected, when choosing TWAIN the driver is detected. The same one that should include all the protocols.

Is there an extra step to enabling an ISIS driver in Windows? How do you even verify that you have this type of driver installed?

Did you install ScanConnect?

We picked Scan Connect as the driver protocol type from the menu in Quickfields. Since there is no ISIS option I read that Scan Connect is another word for ISIS.

Do you mean that there is a separate windows app required besides Quickfields? Or is it an optional module of a custom QF installation?

It is showing in the program.

ScanConnect is the engine and driver package and it is a separate installation from Quick Fields or Laserfiche Scanning. Was it installed on the machine?

I found the Scan Connect 8.3 download under products and sent the link to IT to see if they need to install it.

The download I sent them requires buying a license, but what about the built in options? They have been using the scan connect option from the Quickfields menu for many years, without purchasing this software.

It is possible that the ScanConnect interface appeared in the menu if the manufacturer drivers were manually installed. Perhaps your customer had a copy of them from their hardware manufacturer? To resolve the issue correctly, please speak with your Territory Manager about purchasing ScanConnect for this device.

We could not find anything in the activation log under programdata, but we found a .licx file which gave us a serial number. I contacted support and the license they were using was registered under a different company. I think their VAR purchased it under the wrong company name and they might need to re-purchase it.

It feels like there are so many components sold separately with Quickfields. Where with workflow, all environments have the same functionality. With Forms there is just the Public license to keep track of. With QF it's all over the board.
