Question

Best way to use dynamic fields together with multi-value fields?

asked on July 7, 2021

Hello,

I've seen some similar questions posed before with the general answer being that Laserfiche 11 will potentially have increased functionality. So here's what I'm trying to do:

We have a customer who keeps track of agricultural field information in Laserfiche. They've combined some fields together under one "field name," but the associated "field numbers" and "tract numbers" (among other pieces of information) still need to be kept track of separately. So for example, "Field 1" may have 2 field numbers and 2 tract numbers associated with it. I'm wondering if I can have "Field Number" and "Tract Number" set up as multi-value fields so that when the "Field Name" is filled out, the multi-value fields get filled out with both values dynamically.

Can Laserfiche 11 do that? I've poked around after upgrading our test environment and I don't see a way to do it. My alternative would be modifying the external table to contain all the associated values for a particular field into one row, which might work just fine. But was curious if this kind of functionality was available at this point.

Thanks!

I guess a much better explanation for what I'm trying to do is rather than use dynamic fields to give users a list of options to pick from that are dependent upon a parent field, I want to use a multi-value field and fill it with the values returned that would otherwise be in that list.

I'd also be interested in seeing if this is possible, was there any update at all on this Jacob?

Nope, I didn't get anywhere with this, unfortunately

It's an interesting idea, but it's outside the scope of what dynamic fields do. One possibility would be to have a Workflow run when users update that field, do the lookup, and update the other fields.
