Question

DomainMode enumeration in .NET

asked on July 6, 2021

Hopefully simple question... one of our users is asking the following:

Does LF use DomainMode enumeration in .NET applications to talk to active directory?

Hi Jesse,

This is a pretty specific technical question and the answer may not be the same across all Laserfiche components. It's likely a non-trivial effort to go through the source code/design docs for all the apps to get a definitive answer (or set of answers).

Could you speak with the user and get more context on what they're trying to do and how this information is relevant?

Thanks,
Sam

From the user:

"We need to upgrade our AD domain/forest function level to 2008 R2. That depreciates DomainMode enumeration below .NET 4.0. I don't see .NET 4.0 on the LF server."

Gotcha. Unless they're on Laserfiche 8.x or earlier, I wouldn't have the slightest concern. Laserfiche 10+ applications use .NET 4.5 or higher in almost all cases; those few where they don't are likely irrelevant because they don't communicate with AD.

Edit: As a further note, I've run a Laserfiche 10+ test environment on the Windows Server 2016 Domain/Forest functional level for several years without issue. I can't imagine your customer will have any trouble with 2008 R2 unless they are running a truly ancient version of Laserfiche that's past End of Support.
