Question

Is chrome\browser required in Laserfiche servers?

asked on May 30, 2021

Hi All

Our security team is advising to remove all the browsers from the server hosting Laserfiche, Workflow, forms, and Federated Search.

As part Laserfiche 11, Chromium get installed and Chrome is part of Pre-Requisite of Federated Search.

Shall we uninstall the browsers in the servers? What would be the impact in the Laserfiche components if removed?

Chromium is also required in Laserfiche Forms, responsible for generating snapshots of submitted forms in Save to Repository task and Email Service task attachments.

Oh I was wondering why there was suddenly a new browser called Chromium on all of our servers recently. Is this replacing w2khtml?

Chromium sounds like a condition that develops from using Chrome too much.

@████████

Yes, it is to replace w2kthml.

Chromium is the open-source browser which Google Chrome and new Edge developed based on. Forms use it so that we can get the screenshot the same as what user sees from their browser.

Oh that means colors and other dynamic changes, made with javascript, in the browser might stick now. Will check it out, thanks!

Yep! The rendering engine produces much cleaner results.

Hi Kirubaa,

About Federated Search, without Chrome/Chromium, web site/pages search won't be supported. The Web Provider settings on Federated Search Admin page won't work properly.

Also, if you have Audit Trail 11 installed, the chart view in the report page won't work without Chromium.

Regards,

Leon
