Question

LFDS-Windows Account Username Truncated

asked on May 20, 2021

Hello,

We have a customer with a user that is showing a truncated alias in the Username fields in LFDS.

The full domain\alias is 30 characters.

I believe the character limit for Trustee_Name is 255.

The user can login in with the truncated username, but trying to figure out if this is by design or a possible bug.

Alias does have a . and a - in it, in this format aaaaaaaa\aaaaa.aaaaaaaaa-aaaaa  The last two letters of the alias are cut off.

Appreciate the feedback,

Jeff Curtis

Hi Jeff,

I do not recommend exceeding the AD limit of 20 characters for a username (if you look at the "pre-Windows 2000" user logon name, it's likely limited to 20 characters like the username you see in LFDS). This character limit is not including the domain. See this related post on the topic.
