Question

Drag and dropping a mail from Outlook to laserfiche client that contain comma in subject

asked on May 7, 2021

Hi,

I have users that use drag & drop for its simplicity and rapidity to save mail in Laserfiche. Those users work in HR and the mail subject often contain comma to separate the last name and first name. When they use the drag & drop option it automatically changes the comma for an underscore for the file name. Howerver if they use the Laserfiche ribbon and the save to laserfiche button it does retain the comma in the subject. Is it possible to configure the drag & drop to not automatically change the comma for an underscore?

Thank you

Alexandre

I believe that the change of symbols to underscores is a Windows "feature" that is inherited by Laserfiche.

As some operating systems have an issue with using symbols such as ,:;/\ in filenames, they will be automatically changed to underscores. You can test this by dragging & dropping the emails with commas (or colons, or slashes) in their titles to your desktop.

If your users prefer dragging and dropping over using the Laserfiche Outlook add-on, then they can still modify the filename in the Import to Laserfiche window (just make sure that "Always show Metadata dialog" is checked in Options > New Documents > General):
