Forms: How to set up "Workflow Service Tasks"

asked on May 5, 2021

Greetings all,

I am unsuccessfully attempting to initiate a Workflow through Forms. Whenever I run an instance of the forms process, the instance is instantly terminated.

I have my workflow published and the service task is referencing the exact same published name.

I have checked in the Workflow Admin Console and verified that web service is set to the Forms server.

I am using the following link for reference: https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/Forms/Content/Service-Tasks.htm#WorkflowServiceTasks

Step #5 in the reference material states suggests that I should have a "Select Workflow Server" field in my Workflow Service Task properties pane but as you can see in the screenshot provided, my pane does not include that. Could this be the issue or does my version of forms make that 5th step unnecessary?

The Workflow server selection was not available in Forms 10.4.0. Only one Workflow server is supported in that version (and it is specified in the configuration page).

Thank you for the response Miruna,

I was able to check the forms configuration page to understand what you meant.

I verified that the forms config page has the appropriate workflow server name set.

Now that that has been checked off, any suggestions as to what my issue may be that my forms process cannot start my workflow definition?

Forms stays stuck at suspended tasks and its weird to test my workflow definition on workflow designer because the definition is set to be started by a forms process and I keep getting messages such as "workflow was not started by a form. Could not get form instance ID"

For testing purposes, you can click on the "advanced properties" button in the properties of the Retrieve Business Process Variable activity (the gear icon in the top right corner of the properties pane in the Workflow Designer) and hardcode the IDs of the forms process and submission.  OR you need to run the full "pipeline" from the first submission in the Forms process so it calls into Workflow with the information needed.

Though, if your Forms task gets suspended, you'll probably want to sort that out first. In the instance properties on the Forms side, you should be able to get at the error that caused it to suspend. Alternatively, you can also find the error in the Event Viewer on the Forms server.
