Cloud Feature Request: Convert Content to Base64

posted on April 20, 2021

Hi All,

We've started playing around with Laserfiche Cloud over the past couple of weeks and I have to say we're pretty impressed! Some really useful tools in there, can't wait to show it to some of our clients once the EU datacentre is up and running.

One thing we tend to do a lot of in our on-premise systems is call APIs in other systems. Many of these APIs require content to be base64 encoded (e.g. strings such as authentication tokens and also base64 representations of documents from Laserfiche). Doing this via on-prem Workflow is really easy, it's a few lines of code in a script activity - however in the cloud (while it's possible by running a script via a Remote Agent) it's a bit clunky and a lot of messing around for something that should be quite straightforward.

Wondering if it would be possible to add this as an out-of-the-box activity we can use in Workflow? Or maybe as an output from the "Find Entry" activity like the new option for URLs?

Unless anyone has any other ways of doing this? Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

Cheers,

Dan

I'm in the same situation. Were you able to resolve it?

Hey Juan, the only way to so this currently is to use a custom script unfortunately, which means you need a self-hosted server to run the script and remote worker on. Hopefully Laserfiche can implement something natively in Cloud soon!

You're absolutely right. Everything I've read on the subject leads me to that conclusion. It negates all the advantages of having a cloud server and requires a physical server to process scripts or, in this case, create base64 strings. I hope you can address this issue soon. Thank you very much, Daniel.
