Laserfiche Slowness - Individual Installations

asked on April 9, 2021

We have an ongoing issue of certain individuals experiencing extreme slowness, sometimes taking 1-2 minutes just to open a document. We'll notice that one user will be browsing in the same area of the repository as another, but one of them shows extreme lag.

What are some things I could check?

I'm guessing you are talking about using the Windows client to download a document and open it with an installed application. I would start by confirming that it is a problem with the workstation and not with the user. So if that user logs in from another machine, are things better? If so, the most common cause is anti-virus slowing down the transfer of the document. You can try disabling the AV and see if that improves things. If it's not that, I would take a look at network and system traces to see if the delay appears to be in the download, in the call to the external application, or in launching the application. I would use Wireshark and ProcessMonitor.

Thanks for the reply, Brian!
Yes, this is the desktop application, on-prem, version 10.4
They have having problems double clicking a document within a folder to open it, and when they click on a folder to expand the contents, it can take up to 2 minutes at the worst. This only seems to affect a certain number of users, and it's intermittent. I asked if they could reduce their columns (they show a LOT of columns, maybe 15-20 or so, but insist that they need to see them all).
The issue seems to persist when they use the web-based application as well. I will have to have the affected users try their account on a different machine, that's a great idea!
