LF OCR Engine and DCC - unknown increased activity

asked on April 8, 2021

The activity on these processes picked up out of nowhere, without any indication of what is spiking them. What are some thing that I can check as to what is ticking these up so high?

I had something similar happen to me a month or so ago when I tried to re-index a small repository.  What caused the issue was a problematic document that caused errors, and from there the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing service spun out of control and used up all of the resources on the server, bringing everything to a crawl.  I verified this by looking at the Index section of the Administration Console, and the Status tab, and seeing no changes in numbers when clicking on Refresh to see if any other documents had been processed.

What worked for me here was to Delete the existing Search Catalog and Create a new one (I'm pretty sure Detaching and Reattaching the Search Catalog didn't do it).  Once this was done, the re-indexing of the repository started from scratch, and the indexing was able to complete without errors.

Please try this out and let me know if this works for you.

Hi Marty,

Thanks so much for the reply! On the Status tab of the Indexing properties, I can see the numbers constantly changing as I Refresh. Here's some more context. On the task manager, I see several OCR related stuff running, and the ones taking up all the power are these "lfomniocr19.exe" ones

Hmm - it still might be worth deleting and recreating the Search Index, I know that has saved me on a few occasions...

I'm relatively new and have never done anything with regards to search / index. Is there some literature that would teach me how to do that?

1) From the Laserfiche Administration Console, under the specified repository, select Index.

2) Right-click on the Indexing Status and select Properties.

3) Once at the Indexing Properties screen, under the General tab, click on Delete, clicking OK when prompted.

4) Once the Search Index has been deleted, click on Create to re-create the Search Index.

Please keep in mind that you will not be able to search within your repository while the Search Index is being regenerated, so it might be worth doing this off hours (as this will take some time, obviously depending on the size of your repository).
