Moving Metadata From Field to Field

asked on March 29, 2021 Show version history

I have two fields that serve the same purpose: Agency/Board and Agency / Board.  They both have metadata in them so I can't delete either one.  What is the cleanest way to move all metadata from the one with spaces to the one with no spaces?  Thank you!

You can do this with Workflow.  Search Repository activity for all documents with values in the field you want to clear.  Retrieve Field Values activity to pull in that value as a token.  Assign Field Values activity to apply that token to the correct field and clear out the old field.

I will try this out in my test repository and see how that goes.  Thank you!

Easiest way would be to merge the fields in the administration console if the data is identical. As always with big changes like this backups are good.

I did try doing that, but I get an error stating that I have data in both fields so it can't merge.  I can't find any examples of it when I search, but it has to be true somewhere.  Even after changing the field to allow multiple entries I still got the same error
