Quick Fields - sample pages not visible

asked on March 23, 2021

Hi all,

We're noticing that our sample pages for templates seem to vanish over time. They're there when we work on the Document Class, and in some cases stay visible after exiting then reopening the QF Session. However almost all of them vanish after a while. If we want to see them again in order to edit/tweak the Document Class we have to re-scan or re-upload a sample.

Is this normal/default behaviour? If so - is there a way to change that so it retains the sample images permanently?

If it isn't normal behaviour, can anyone steer us towards the possible cause and resolution?

Thanks,

Duncan

Hi,

This does not sound like expected behavior. I don't know what a resolution might look like without more information, but here is some information that might help you in troubleshooting:

The sample pages are technically stored as part of the session file itself, but when you're viewing them in a Quick Fields session, you're seeing a temporary copy located in "C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp\Samples". You can actually click in the lower righthand corner of the Quick Fields window (where it says page size info such as ) and it will open up the exact temp folder where the specific sample page you're looking at is stored.

Quick Fields only deletes these temporary copies when you close the session, so if the samples are disappearing while the session is open, I'd check if these temp files are being deleted from that folder in some other way, or if some other software (e.g. an antivirus tool) may be blocking access to them. If they are disappearing when the session is not open, I'd take a closer look at whether something may result in changes to the session ".qfx" files themselves. If the sessions are being stored on a Quick Fields Server, you might look into whether someone else is overwriting your session.

Thanks Tessa - really useful!

I can see there are a bunch of tiffs in the temp folder as you mentioned; with LOC and TXT files - but when you look at those, most of them are actually the default LF Test document. The ones in that temp folder that are the 'real' documents we're working on are the ones we can still see in QF when we look at the Document Classes.

What's interesting is that the generic LF Test doc is not being displayed when we review the document classes - it's just a blank image window.

I wonder if this issue is being introduced because when we replace the sample image to work on, we're putting a PDF into a working folder in Laserfiche, which is the scan source? We are asking Quick Fields to generate a page on import ("scan") of the PDF but perhaps this isn't happening when we 'Scan' a PDF to replace a sample image in the Document Class settings?

In other words - we aren't starting with tiffs, we're starting with PDFs that have been sent by a third party.

If the above isn't clear please let me know and I'll copy/paste some screen snips and list the process we use.

Cheers!

Duncan
