Question

apply stamp

asked on March 15, 2021

I have a very simple test workflow to test applying a stamp. I am getting the message " The object must have its connection set before it can be used."  I've seen others discuss this message but I haven't seen any clear resolution.

Does anyone have a clue how to resolve this issue? Thanks.

What versions are Workflow and the Laserfiche Server?

I don't think your stamp setup will work the way you expect it. From the screenshot, it looks like you are trying to use a token in the stamp. Note that what you are specifying there is the stamp name not the contents.

Are you running this workflow manually from the Designer while you have the document open in the client?

From the screenshot, it looks like it hit an "entry locked" error and went into the retry loop where it will attempt the action again in 5 minutes.

Hi, The document wasn't open or locked. I am testing on documents only I have access to and the client was/is closed when I test it. The document is locked by WF. If I disable the Apply Stamp step and run the same work flow with an "Add Text Box" tool it works fine.

I think the locked record message occurs after the "connection set" error because the appear to be listed in chronological order.  That is just a guess. With the time stamp on the error it isn't clear.

When I run the same workflow with the Add TextBox tool it works fine so it seems that it is specific to the Apply Stamp tool.

Does your Workflow user have permissions to access to both the document and the stamp?

Yes, I checked the access rights and WF is creating the stamp as part of the process. So I believe there shouldn't be any conflict.

Workflow is 10.4.1.223. Laserfiche is 10.4.1.147.

Oh I was thinking I could generate the stamp dynamically.

Well that was the problem.  Once I just put the name of the stamp in there it worked. I feel dumb but the error could have been more helpful maybe...

Thanks for looking at it!

If you either wait the five minutes for the task to automatically retry, or select the task on the active workflow and tell it to retry, do you get the same error message or does it do something else?

It continues to wait. After 15 minutes it shows the following. In this case it shows the lock occurring after the "connection set" error.

Thanks. It was a dumb user error. I thought I could 'create a stamp' by putting text in the Stamp box but I was wrong.

Huh - weird.  I thought that might be it, but when I tried to replicate the error, I got a completely different error message about the stamp not existing, so I didn't pursue that any further.

Glad to hear you figured it out though.

I'm guessing the Add Text Box activity is going to be your best bet for what you were trying to do with the variable text and tokens.

Good luck!
