I initially installed Connector as run-time only on a machine I'm using. But now that is the only machine I have access to remotely, so I need to change that to be the machine used to create profiles. How do I change from run-time to profile creator on the machine I'm using? And do I have to remove it from the other machine first?

Answer
WOO HOOO - solved! If anyone else runs into this ... it turned out that when I renewed our license this year, I renamed the old license as lf2020.licx ... and did not change the file extension. SO Connector got confused seeing two lf*.licx evidently. Because once I changed the defunct license to lf2020.old ... and exited Connector and restarted it. BOOM good to go!
So it's important when replacing licenses to rename the EXTENSION, not just the file name.
Yay Mike at MCCi and yay Miruna for encouraging the trace log. And yay everyone for a happy Friday :-)

I just tried getting a new connector license from my LF server and putting it on my C drive where the prev license was - but Connector still opens as "Runtime only". (cue the wonh wonh wonh sound ... )
Hi, Roz! Is the license in the LF Connector's install folder?
Hi Miruna! I miss seeing you this year!
The new license is on my C drive: C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\LFConnector
I don't know what the install folder is or where it is - would that be on my LF server?
(Yeah, that's the thing i miss the most with virtual Empower. Just getting a chance to chat with people)
Now that I had more coffee and read your Connector question again, did you ever re-run the install to add the Profile Creator?
I just saw in the installation guide that I should have seen a step to activate it. I will try that Monday. Brain is overdone now haha.
Thank you - I'll let you know what happens with that next week :-)
I will get back to this next week. But when I did try to repair the installation, it did not ask about activation of the license. So needs more investigation.
Hi Roz,
Instead of doing a repair (which will just keep everything the same), try doing a modify operation. That would give you ability to add the profile creator option. If Connector does not offer a modify option, then uninstalling/reinstalling should work without impacting your profiles.
Dig it! Thanks, I'll try that next.
Sigh. ok so the problem with this solution was that Profile Creator was already there. It was already checked and so I had no option to move forward. So I tried Modify and UNCHECKING Profile Creator. Restarted machine. But that did not remove profile creator. So I was at same place with it checked and no place to move forward with modify. SO this time, I did an uninstall of connector. Restart machine.
Ugh. Still says Runtime only. No option to create profiles.
Tried again, running installation as admin. Tried running Connector as admin. Still says Runtime. Got a fresh license file and pointed to it. Nope.
I can't create anything with it. Super bummed. Had plans to build some cool stuff but time is running out.
Sad Roz.
I guess I could try putting it on a fresh machine. Problem is I don't have the software I wanted to build a connection with on the other machine.
Could you try one more uninstall and reinstall? But this time run it from a command prompt and add logging to it:
setuplf.exe -log C:\temp\Connector
Then we can see where things got confused.
Yes, I will do that! Thank you so much
Shall I email it to you or attach here - it's several text files, I can group into a zip
Email it, there's info that might be too sensitive for a public site.
Update: Trace log indicated there are two license files, so clearly there is some confusion for the software. I put in a support ticket with our VAR to help me clean up whatever needs to be cleaned up.
Side note - Connector doesn't always appear in my task tray. I was about to give up being able to turn on trace log when it showed up in my tray and I was able to follow the instructions for turning on logging.
