Feature Request - Remove or obscure "Renew subscription master license automatically" switch

posted on February 22, 2021

I can't think of any reason anyone would ever want to disable this switch, it will cause Directory Server to stop talking to the licensing server and keep your license active.

We had a case where it was switched off accidentally, so the software eventually shut down and simply switching it back on and renewing the license and restarting the server did not bring any of the services back online.

I would also recommend that this option only be available if LFDS is using subscription licensing. There's no reason to show options that don't have a use based on the license type.

I am pretty sure our non-subscription installs also communicate with the global licensing server. Just in different intervals. There is a primary LFDS key which is issued and managed by the global server.

@████████that should already be the case for the past several releases of LFDS.

The automatic relicensing for applications is shown for all systems since it is still useful, but the primary license renewal option will only be shown if an expiration is detected.

Hi Chad,

We will look into adding a confirmation dialog to prevent this from happening accidentally, since the consequences of changing the setting without understanding the consequences are high.

Some customers want more control over their system and have turned off this option, but yes, most systems should leave this on for a better experience.
