Question

Save to Laserfiche from Word document locks document in repository

asked on February 11, 2021

We have a process where a Word document is updated from a folder in Laserfiche.  Once updated, it is saved to another folder in Laserfiche as a PDF.

This save is done by executing the following steps:

  1. Open Word document in Master folder in Laserfiche
  2. Click to open Laserfiche tab
  3. Choose drop down in Save to Laserfiche
    1. Choose New Document
  4. Expand the folder structure of the non-versioned public PDF folder to find the correct Section and Series where the PDF should reside
    1. Choose Save as PDF
    2. Click Save
  5. Choose to Overwrite the document
  6. Click OK
  7. Close Word Document
    1. Discard changes & OK

Normally this saves the document as a PDF without locking the document.

Now, when I execute this process, it locks the document under my login.  Refreshing the webpage doesn't clear the lock.  The only things that clear the lock are going into Management console and clearing the lock OR signing out of the web client and signing back in.

Why is document retaining a lock under my login?

Also happens in Windows client.  Currently on 10.3.1.98 Web Client

We are having the same issue and I would really like to resolve it.  The only difference is that we are opening up a Word document from Laserfiche, then saving it as a PDF in a different folder (or with a different name in same folder) to be the final document.  This saves having to save it as a PDF outside of Laserfiche and then dragging and dropping it back into Laserfiche.  However, the new PDF locks right away and stays locked until the user logs out and back in, as you describe.

Have you found a solution for this yet?  Hoping that someone from Laserfiche can look into this being that you are not the only organization having this issue.  We are on Laserfiche Web Client 10.4 (10.4.2.347) and our staff do not use the Windows Client.  At least we know this is something that was not new with 10.4.
