Question

Forms config cannot see the SQL database server

asked on February 10, 2021

I am trying to set up LF Forms on my test VM, and I cannot get Forms to see the database server (which is on this same server).

I am using SQL express.  This server is also my Laserfiche server, and LF is up and running just fine.   I can log into the SQL instance just fine.   I have tried also putting just "localhost" as the name, and it Forms still cannot see it.  Any ideas?

Tyler,

Forms is looking for the instance name for SQL.  Depending on how you installed and configured SQL Express the instance name is most likely SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS.

Thanks Cliff,  I did try WS16\SQLEXPRESS but still got the same result.  It says no server found.

Interesting!  When you connect to the SQL instance with the SQL Management Console what is the instance name in the connection dialog?

Also check that the SQL Browser service is running.

If you manually set "WS16\SQLEXPRESS" as the Server name and enter the correct username and password, can you get the databases list?

The SQLExpress instance can show up for me in the server's list when the SQL Server Browser service is running.
