Hello,
I have a customer experiencing a significant delay in downloading an Excel report from the desktop client. They'll run a search to find entries in the repository and from the search results pane, they'll initiate a report download. I can run the same search on the server and it only takes 15-30 seconds to create and download it, but from multiple client PCs (logged in as different users), the same report takes 5 minutes to get created.
This report in particular would consist of about 1150 lines and 25 columns. Anyone have any advice on where to start troubleshooting this?
Thanks!

Downloading Excel report from desktop client takes 5+ minutes on client PCs but 15 seconds on server

Make sure to export from the search results node in the folder tree, not by doing select-all in the right pane. This is much faster:
Hi Robert,
Yep, that's how they're creating the report. Sorry, I can see how my wording was misleading there.
I do see a delay on the server of an additional 15 ish seconds to generate a report the way you described by selecting all the entries in the right pane. Still way faster for me to do it that way on the server than it is for users on client PCs to do it the "right" way on their PCs.
It's hard to say what is making it so slow, but since it only happens over the network it could be a firewall/proxy inspecting each request.
I'll see what I can find out regarding the firewall.
I watched the same user generate a report on 4x as many entries (different template) and it didn't even take 5 seconds to create. Granted, there were fewer columns in this one. It feels like the problem here is a certain field, even though none of them are particularly lengthy. Any idea if certain field characteristics can dramatically increase the amount of time it takes to write the value for that field?
Thanks for the help!
It seems like folders are the issue - if I download a report purely on documents (all the same columns, more lines in the report), it's almost instant. If I run the same report on folders (while leaving the "include subfolders" checkbox unchecked), it takes significantly longer, even with fewer lines to write in the report.
These folders and documents share the same template, but only the folders have a certain text field filled out. This field is a 500 character limit text field, and the field is indexed. Any random document very seldom exceeds 40 characters in this field, and probably 25% of these folders don't have any data assigned to that field anyway. Does anything about that text field stand out as a reason why the report on the folders might be taking significantly longer?
I tried with and without folders and I can't reproduce the slowness. To troubleshoot this further, please enable LFSO tracing from Help->About->Tracing, generate fast and slow reports (one without folder and one with folders), open a support case and submit the logs.
