Question

how to store a PDF file in Laserfiche as pages?

asked on January 17, 2021 Show version history

hello,

We have some PDF documents when we import them to LaserFiche they get imported as PDF and not as LaserFiche Pages, and when we try to process them after saving them we receive an error [6000], these documents downloaded from docusign. Using Snapshot printer convert them to LF pages correctly.

Error generating pages for 'bad': Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Unknown error. [6000] [6000]

I want to store a PDF file as pages, how to do the following?

Thank you

There is a known issue with Docusign files and generating pages.  If you print the document using Save as PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF before adding the DocuSign envelop, the error will not occur when imported to LF.

Issue only occurs for Docusign files that are downloaded as separate files. Works if it's downloaded with the summary file. Summary files work to import normally.

Try printing the document using Microsoft Print to PDF, import to LF, and generate pages.  Or print to LF using Snapshot.

The workaround you said do work, but what is strange the issue started 2021, wish LF share their input as well.

This issue was addressed in Laserfiche 11. Patching it into 10.4 is being investigated as well.

Miruna, Thank for the quick response. This is very helpful for a client of ours. Do y'all have an ETA on a potential patch for 10.4 or is it still TBD?

This is the information I have on the issue.  The issue is with DocuSign not allowing page extraction.

Workarounds for Laserfiche Client:

  1. Use Laserfiche Snapshot to print the PDFs to Laserfiche.
  2. Change the Laserfiche Client Generate Pages option to use the Snapshot virtual printer. The client must have rights to delete the electronic component of the file, if that is a requirement.

Workaround for Web Client:

  1. Users will need to uncheck the option to Generate pages when importing PDFs.

Per Laserfiche, the failure to generate pages is caused by a setting in the DocuSign PDF.

Page extraction: Not allowed dose not matter in LaserFiche, I have many other documents for example AWS invoices with Page Extraction: Not allowed and they are imported just fine.
