Question

Unable to Print Laserfiche Forms

asked on January 6, 2021

We have been using a Laserfiche form for payroll submission for few months now. We recently upgraded from version 10.3 to version 10.4.5.282. The print option does not work any more. I tried to use the print button I created in the form and the Laserfiche Forms print button that appears on the top right corner of the screen (from the form's window) and none of them are working.

If open the form in the edit mode and try to preview it, the print command works. But it does not work in the live form.

I would appreciate any help in resolving this issue. Thanks.

Can you describe what you mean by "not working"? Does the button click but not do anything? Do you see a pop-up with a blank image? Does the print try to get an image but it's cut off?

The easiest solution would likely be to open a support case so we can see a video of the issue and take a look at your form.

No action happens when I click on the button. It is not responsive.

Popups are not blocked.

I will try to reach support.

Thanks.

I just found out that this behavior occurs when the form has an attachment.

One of the fields enables users to add an attachment before submitting. So if the form has an attachment, it does not print. The print button would be unresponsive. No error, no reaction at all.

We had a support session with our service provider and here is what we found out:

  • The issue is restricted to our environment
  • The issue is not related to browser type
  • Upon clicking on the print button, there is no error that is triggered and no information in logs

We escalated the issue to Laserfiche for further assistance. Thanks.

Try using ctrl + F5 to clear your browser cache. Sometimes directly after upgrade caching can be an issue.

Does your form have pdf attachment?  There is an identified bug in Forms with Chrome (77+) that print button not work when there is pdf attachment. The workaround is to try with Firefox or use print function directly in Chrome(right click page => Print).

Hi Shengyao,

Is this something Laserfiche has resolved in a Forms update or hotfix?

Hi @████████

No, we did look into this and found that the browser native api "window.print()" won't work if there is an embed pdf on the web page. (Print issue in latest Chrome - Google Chrome Community). The code is out of Forms so we currently have no hotfix on the issue.

If that is your issue, the workaround is still the same as I commented above.

Note that if your form has file upload fields with "Show uploaded images" enabled, another thing you can try is to disable the option.

Hi @████████, wanted to check if there is any hotfix or workaround available for Forms v11 update 4 onwards for this issue in Google or Edge browser

I tested on 11 Update 5, now:

1. If you use new Forms Designer, print works fine

2. If you use classic Form Designer, click "Print" button/icon in Forms won't work, the behavior is logged as internal bug (id: 217588), the workaround is to use Chrome's print directly (Ctrl + P or right click page and choose "Print")

Please see if the workaround (use new Forms Designer or call Chrome's print directly) works for you, thanks.
