Question

Combining Documents in Laserfiche

asked on January 6, 2021 Show version history

Hello,

I need to add an amendment to an existing contract. Both the contract and the amendment have a PDF and a TIFF component. When I combine the two, however, it looks like the TIFF component of the amendment "migrates" to the contract, but the PDF component stays in the amendment and there is no TIFF component there now. What can be the problem here please?

Thank you,

Olga

Not directly in the repository - it's going to maintain that PDF file separate from the TIF pages - even if you generate pages as I suggested, the PDF remains a separate piece and unaltered.

Example:

  • 5 page PDF and 3 page TIF file.
  • Generate pages on PDF - it's now a 5 page PDF with 5 TIF pages.
  • Move the 3 pages into the 5 page file.
  • You now have a file with a 5 page PDF attached and 8 TIF pages - they are combined, but the original PDF is unaltered.

You could of course delete the PDF component from the file after you generate the pages - that eliminates the split PDF/TIF functionality and leaves just the TIF behind.

PDF documents stored in Laserfiche as refered to as "Electronic Documents" and are maintainted separately from the TIF pages that are the native format in Laserfiche.

You can try right clicking on the PDF document and selecting the option to Generate Pages which will make TIF copies of all of the PDF pages - then you could combine those TIF pages with the TIF pages from the separate document.  But you won't be able to natively combine the TIF pages into the PDF document inside Laserfiche.

Thank you for the response Matthew. What I am trying to do is add both components of the amendment to the two components of the contract, then delete the amendment document. The problem is that right now I have to download the whole contract from Laserfiche, combine the contract and the amendment, then move the combined file back to the repository replacing the old contract with the new one. I am unable to combine both components inside Laserfiche, only the TIFF portions can be combined, which means depending on how the user view is set up (PDF view or Page View), they might not see the whole contract. Is there a way to combine both the TIFF and the PDF components of documents inside Laserfiche? Thank you in advance.
