LF Client 9.2-Folder almost 2TB and LF Crashes when trying to open it

asked on December 15, 2020

Hello,

Not sure how to remedy this, but a customer has a large folder (2TB) and when they try to open it LF Client Crashes.

We tried on a workstation and server with same results.

Anything anyone can think of, much appreciated.

You could try programmatically breaking up the folder into subfolders with Workflow.

It's almost certainly the number of entries the LF Client is trying to list that's causing the issue, not the size of those entries on disk.

There have also been quite a few enhancements around better supporting display of high entry-count folders throughout Laserfiche 10 releases. You might consider upgrading at least LFS and Windows Client to the latest if that's an option.

When you say crash, does it say something to the effect of "LF.exe has stopped working" or does it stop responding as if it is hung?

I suspect it might be that the database is being overwhelmed by the size of the folder and it's actually hanging while waiting for the server to respond. In this case, it might be possible to wait for the operation to complete. There is no practical limitation on the size of a folder in Laserfiche, but performance problems can show up if the database is underpowered.

Another idea is to remove any unnecessary columns from the display before browsing to the folder. Some columns are more expensive to calculate than others.
