Import Agent - Don't do anything to the imported files after they're imported

posted on December 1, 2020

Is there an option to not move the processed files after they have been imported by Import Agent?

Universal Capture (in QF and LF Scanning) has this option:

But it's strangely missing from Import Agent:

Use case: we need to import millions of files that reside in a folder structure used by another system, and Import Agent cannot change the file paths because that would break the other system. And we can't make copies of the files elsewhere first because the "current file path" is used as the lookup key to populate the metadata of each imported file - so IA needs to retrieve the files from their current location.

Hi Ege,

Import Agent monitors the files in the monitored folder and imports them immediately, if don't do anything after importing, the files will be imported again and again, instead of once.

I would suggest to make copies for you case to use Import Agent. You mentioned that current path is used for lookup to populate the metadata. If you make copies, instead of using the token %(FilePath), you can try to use "%(Subfolder)%(FileName)".

For example, the current folder is C:\A, the copy folder is C:\B. You can specify the field value as "C:\A\%(Subfolder)%(FileName)  to reference the exact path instead of the copy one.

thanks,

Huazhen
