Question

Recover a failed form submission

asked on November 30, 2020

The Change notes for Forms 10.4.4 include

  • Added the ability for end users to be able to recover a failed form submission when there is a back-end error.

I can's find how to do this for a suspended or Terminated form instance.

Could someone provide a step by step explanation of how this is accomplished?

This feature does not allow you to recover terminated instances. This is about allowing a submitter to recover a form submission immediately after submitting it if it runs into an error.

If a user fills out a form and clicks submit, they generally get sent to the thank you page to let them know the form was successfully processed. If there is an error in the submission (due to the user not being logged in, a validation error, or a change in the form while they were filling it out), instead of the thank you page, they are sent to an error page where they can click Recover Form to go back to their form. They can then fix the issue by signing back in, fixing the bad field value or re-submitting an updated version of the form, without losing all of their data.

Thank you. it would be a great feature if there was a way to resubmit or restart a  process.  I have instances where for example a workflow in the process failed to update a back end database.

In Forms 11, we are looking to greatly reduce the number of terminated instances for any reason. If an instance is stuck, it will suspend, and we are adding the ability for an admin to update variable values from the monitor page. The goal is empower process admins to fix any suspended instance and then retry them to get them back to in-progress.
