Question

Laserfiche OCR

asked on November 20, 2020 Show version history

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to ORC a PDF file but I get an error. This is the error:" Error generating pages for '(Document Name)': Non-negative number required.  Parameter name: count  Unknown error. [6000] [6000]"

I'm hoping you can help me because I cannot do a search.

Thanks

Laserfiche won't OCR a PDF file - it uses the text in the PDF markup to perform any searches.

If your PDF has images of text, or you have a different need to actually OCR the document, you'll first need to generate Laserfiche pages. Right click the PDF and select Generate Pages... and run through the wizard with your preferred options. After that, you'll be able to OCR the new Laserfiche Pages.

Hi Brian,

I do what you say to generate pages first and do the OCR. When I generating the pages of a PDF file  I get an error same as the OCR.

I don't know how to solve this issue.

Thanks

Does this happen on other machines or user accounts? Does it happen with other PDF files?

I would first try exporting the PDF from the repository to the desktop and see if anything is wrong with the PDF itself. If something is wrong with it, try to re-import it or look for it in the volume on the server to see if it's corrupted somehow.

If it looks fine, have another user account try to OCR it or generate pages. If another user can generate pages and OCR the same document, try clearing the attributes of the user who is having the problem and try again. If that doesn't work, re-install the Laserfiche client and the PDF reader.

Finally, if none of that works, have the same user account try it from a different machine. If you have cleared the user attributes and re-installed the client and it still doesn't work, but it does work on a different machine, then there might be something wrong with that machine that is not strictly a Laserfiche problem.

Hope that helps!

Hi Brian,

First for you're questioned: "Does this happen on other machines or user accounts? Does it happen with other PDF files?.

Yes, it happened to other users and machines, I try this on the server itself and I use the admin account, but the same problem encounter.

For the file, only for this batch of PDF had an error.

Thanks

Can you re-import that batch? It sounds like the file itself is bad.

Hi Brian,

May colleague say that the original file extension is an HTML. May question if this file extension is HTML, Laserfiche can generate a Pages and can OCR it?

But we will try to create a new repository and try to upload the file to the new created repository.

Thanks

I just tested with a simple HTML file. When I import it, LF is able to generate searchable text. If I right click it and select Generate Searchable Text, it is able to generate the text. But when I try to generate pages it gives me an error, "No application is associated with the specified file for this operation" which is expected.

This was a very small and simple HTML file though. If you have big, complex files then you might get different behavior. Laserfiche isn't designed to work with HTML files the same way it's meant to work with other file types so this may be a limitation of the software.

In the future, can you print the web page to a PDF rather than saving the HTML file? That will probably work better for what you need to do in Laserfiche.
