Workflow-Transaction failed. The server response was:

Hello,

We have a customer who has a few users that when they go to update an invoice Metadata field for a new reviewer, the WF is supposed to route the document to the other reviewers folder and send an email to that new reviewer, but the document does not route and when we look in WF we see the associated WF has terminated with the following error:

Transaction failed. The server response was: (Customer Exchange Server)mx1.(Company  Name).com

I looked in the Database and Activity Logs in the WF Admin Console, and could not find any further information.

I confirmed with their IT that all corresponding IP's for the Mail Server are correct and this issue only affects a 2-3 users out of 16 total Reviewers.

To close off this thread: the issue was on the mail server side.

Hi Jeff, which specific Workflow activity is failing and throwing the terminating error?

Might be helpful if you can share a screenshot of how that activity is configured (with any sensitive info redacted).
