Question

How to save a pdf fillable document in the LF Cloud

asked on November 13, 2020

I want to save a pdf fillable document in my repository and maintain the fillable fields feature.

Is this possible and if so how or where is the setting?

For example: i receive emails with the form attached and want to save the document.

Hi Timothy,

Are you looking for the ability to download the PDF from Cloud and then fill out the fields in your PDF software? Or the ability to fill out the PDF fields from within Cloud?

Hi Jacob,

My first way is to have the ability to fill out the PDF fields from within the Cloud.  Opening or viewing document.

You gave me an option in how you asked the question...if I can use the Adobe software and move the form from the Cloud to Adobe and fill out the fields; this works too!

Thanks,

If there's a way to fill out PDFs from within Laserfiche, I'm not aware of it. I asked just to find out exactly what were you looking for. Sorry for the confusion there. Hopefully, if it's possible, someone chimes in here.

Otherwise, you should be able to download the PDF from your Cloud repository and retain all the fillable fields. I'm guessing you have settings configured to generate Laserfiche pages and discard the PDF upon import. When in your repository, click your name in the top right and choose Options. From there, click the New Document node on the left side and look for the settings under "For PDF Files." Screenshot below:

Configuring your settings like this will ensure that the original PDF with fillable fields is preserved in Laserfiche. Then you should be able to download it to your PC and fill out the fields in Adobe.

I was able to accomplish this by using a workflow with Input Variables, that would then use a document merge to associate the fields from the form to the document. In order to save it to the repository after, I had to use a 'Create Entry' Activity, and 'Attach Electronic Document.' Finally I had to use 'Assign Field Values' to record any of the values to the metadata.

Hi Dane,

Were you able to do this in Laserfiche Cloud or on-prem?

The ability to use PDF forms in Document Merge rules has been added to Laserfiche Cloud earlier this year.

This was done in Laserfiche Cloud, I will attach a screenshot. The documents still have to be sent to DocuSign to have a Signature attached, just FYI. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Make sure to check the 'Allow this workflow to be started by other processes.'
