Question

Cloud Migration - migrate groups?

asked on November 6, 2020

We've done a couple of cloud migrations and while the users map correctly to the users we set up in the Repository Export Client, we have run into issues with users not having their correct groups and I don't see a way to export user groups as well. This has caused problems with users who only inherited permissions and access from their group and had nothing applied to their individual accounts, who log into the cloud repository for the first time and have no permission to view anything. Fortunately we've only had small customers so far and the fixes were relatively simple, but looking at larger customers with complex folder / document permission strategies, this could be a huge challenge.

Is there a way to migrate groups to the cloud, with all the correct folder/ document permissions? If not I don't think it would be feasible for us to migrate anyone but our smallest customers to the Cloud at this point.

Hi Brian,

Currently, the Repository Export Client utility only supports Laserfiche repository groups that do not have any Windows trustees as members. Those Laserfiche repository groups can be mapped to groups created in Laserfiche Cloud and the group membership and inheritance will be handled correctly.

If you're finding that this isn't the case, or that this didn't actually work as intended for a specific repository, please open a support case so we can investigate further.
