Feature Request: Laserfiche Forms Upload Fillable PDF to form "Background" and overlay fields.

posted on October 21, 2020

It would be great to be able to upload as a background image and then be able to put fields over the image so that the screen looks like a fillable pdf and the information is saved.  This is done in so many other programs, why can't we do it in Laserfiche Forms.

Can you give some example of other programs that support this?

Xiuhong, Seamless Docs is the product that we run up against a lot that has this ability.  It's not as fully featured as LF Forms, but the simplicity of uploading an existing form is incredibly enticing to customers.  I agree with Zaheer that we encourage the work arounds, but it is not always what the customer needs.  This would be a HUGE feature to add, customers would love it.

Formatta is another product that has this capability.

Thanks you all for providing the products that provide such functionality, we've heard similar requests before.  Currently we are working on the new layout designer that provides more features that make it easier to design the form such as put field side by side with drag and drop, put section into section etc. We will look into other ways that can simplify the design form after we finish the current work.

Hi Katy,

I've seen this requested from clients as well. What I tell them is that if you use an existing form then you're limited by the page dimensions and other physical constraints of a paper form. You can't use conditional field rules, or add rows to tables, etc.

My recommendation is to build a Laserfiche form to best practices to capture the data you need, then if you need the final copy of the form to resemble the paper form, you can use workflow and the fill pdf action to merge the data into the final PDF.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. That is pretty much what I do now, but sometimes we need to be restricted to a "physical" form and this is a request I have gotten a couple times from people I design forms for.
