Question

email word doc from client

asked on October 20, 2020

Hello,

Is there a way to email a Word doc from the Web Client? It is sending as a text file even when I select send as pdf.

Thanks!

Hi Tiffany,

Do you have the box checked in the "Send as Pages" column in the Email Basket dialog box? Screenshot below:

If I check that box, my attachment is a .txt file. Leaving it unchecked attaches the .doc or .docx file. Do you see the same behavior?

It's checked, but is read-only. Is that a setting somewhere?

It looks like the UI thinks there are only pages, and not the Word doc itself. Can you open the Word file normally?

I can open it if I select Edit with Word, but I cannot download as a word file. I noticed the files that do not show pages will download and email. The files that I cannot email are created from a workflow Update Word Doc task. Is there something I should do in my workflow instead?

Thanks!

The "Edit with Word" option might just be controlled by the extension, vs this dialog which actually checks for edoc content. It does sound like the Update Word Task is creating an inconsistent document. You might want to double check that it is doing what you want, and consider reaching out to your SP for support.
