Question

How to avoid Laseriche Auto Re-indexing?

asked on October 18, 2020

Hi Everyone,

I want to upgrade may laserfiche to the latest version but I don't want to auto update the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Catalog. I want to manually or selectively re-index the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Catalog.

May question is, how I'll do that?

Thank you

Hi Rafael,

Ah ok, for major upgrades, during the upgrade there is a section at the end which asks you about upgrading the text catalogue. You can either re-index the whole repository from scratch, upgrade the text catalogue or chose to upgrade it later.

Bear in mind that if you chose to upgrade it later, you will not be able to text/content search until you've upgraded the text catalogue.

Template searches etc. will continue to function as normal.

One other thing, make sure you take a backup of your repository database before running the upgrade, as the upgrade isn't always successful.

Hope this helps!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the response.

I have another question.

One of our clients had difficulty retrieving a search result using the text search. My question is, what is the cause of this problem? The Reindexing Tab on Admin Console is in Ready.  They are using the OCR to get the text equivalent, but if they search no result shows.

I'm hoping for you're response.

Thank you

Hi Rafael,

This could be for a number of reasons, the most common couple are that the document they are trying to text search for is not OCR'd (you can check this by docking the text pane in the Laserfiche client and seeing if the document has a text layer).

The second is that the text catalogue is corrupt, and the repository needs re-indexing. Deatils on how to do this are here - https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1011970/regenerating-a-repositorys-search-idx-files

Hope this helps point you in the right direction!

Hi Tom,

We create a new search catalog by deleting the old search catalog.
