Question

change host value used in Password Reset URL

asked on October 12, 2020

The LFDS Password Reset email only uses the fully qualified netbios computer name for the password reset link, and the LFDS\Settings\Email Template page doesn't appear to give you an option to configure what to use for the host portion of the URL.  Is this configurable somewhere else? (registry, config file)?

We have an environment where the client is using Laserfiche Directory Users, so they need to leverage the password change email feature, but the URL sent is not resolvable for the end users, hence they need to configure that to use a different hostname than the computer name.

i.e.:

A password reset has been requested for your account... link to reset your password: https://Computername.ADdomain.com/ResetPassword?xyz

We need he link to read:

https://OtherHostname.OtherDomain.com/ResetPassword?xyz

If this isn't an option currently, we'd like to submit this as a feature request.

Hi Damon,

Open up XmlEndpointUtility.exe (located in "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Directory Server" by default) and locate the "Primary security token service" and "Approved security token services" fields. Change the hostnames/domains in those fields to the externally accessible ones and then give the password reset email another try.

I know it has been a long time since this was asked and answered, but I can confirm that this worked on my end. The host name used in the "Primary Security Token Service" field (shown below) is the one embedded in the link for the password reset emails:

Thanks!
