Question

How to duplicate a document

asked on October 8, 2020

Looking for ideas. I have five documents, all of which need to have the same supporting document attached to them. In the past we would just photocopy this document, don't want to do that as I am trying to cut down on paper.

I am looking for a way to be able  scan in the supporting document once and attach a copy of it to each of the documents in Quickfields.

Any ideas

Hi Tegan,

I'm assuming some things about your situation here, but the first thing that comes to my mind is getting this supporting document into Laserfiche, generating pages, and taking note of the entry ID. You could then create a workflow with a Find Entry activity that points to this document using the entry ID, and then copies image pages from this supporting document to each new document that Quick Fields creates when Quick Fields saves the document in Laserfiche.

So, users would scan the document using Quick Fields, save it to Laserfiche, and a workflow starts (with starting conditions that only run this workflow when these specific documents are created in Laserfiche) that copies pages from the supporting document to the document from Quick Fields.

Does that sound like it might work in your situation? I'm not sure there's a great way for Quick Fields to find the supporting document in Laserfiche and append it to the documents in Quick Fields without sending the document to Laserfiche first, but there are plenty of people smarter than me here who might know a way.

Do you need copies or can you point them all to this supporting document? You keep the supporting doc as its own document and use document relationships to link it to the other documents.
