How to assign templates to folders

asked on September 15, 2020

Hi there,

I can't seem to find instructions on how to assign specific templates (containing metadata/ fields) to specific folders in the repository. I'm hoping to assign one general template to the parent folder (to cascade down to all subfolder), but want to have some subfolders have a different template. I haven't figured out to to apply either of these templates. Is this done in the repository or somewhere else? If you can direct me to the correct resources that'd be great!

It is done in the repository, assigning a template to a folder is the same as assigning a template to any other entry including a document. Right click the entry and select Metadata, or if you use Web just look to the right hand side with the folder selected.

If your looking to assign a template to all child folders automatically, you would want to build a workflow to do that.

Thanks! I'm trying to apply this templates to various sub-folders (so that it will override the default from the parent folder) and users will fill out this new template instead of the default one.

Is there any way to select multiple folders (30+) when choosing a folder to apply the template to it?

I'm either not seeing it, or not doing this correctly, but I'd like to keep assigning the same template to 30+ sub-folders with in the same workflow to reduce overall clutter.
