Question

Granting Access to Repository with Educational License

asked on September 8, 2020 Show version history

Can someone provide me with instructions on how to grant educational users read only access to the repository? I know this license has this capability. I would like to create an AD group of these users and grant them access. Right now I am getting access denied. Thanks.

Here is what I did to create them. I appreciate everyone that responded. We use Active Directory and this is copied from my own documentation. I noticed there was an issue logging into the desktop version so below is how I got around that as well.

  1. Create a Repository Group.

  2. Add windows users or groups to the Windows Accounts tab.

  3. Right click on the users or group in the Windows Accounts tab and open the Properties.

On the General tab>Authentication select Trust: allow access. You won't be able to login to the                   repository if this isn’t changed. Under the Rights tab, check Export.

     4. Open the repository group you just created and select the Members tab. Near the bottom you will             see Domain trustee linking. Add the windows account or group you just created under the                         Windows Accounts pane and hit Apply.

     5. Go into the repository and add the Repository group to the folder structure as needed.

Known login issues:

  1. If you are trying to use the desktop version you might get a HotKey error popup. To fix this go to the Repository Group> Rights and check “Export”.

Hi Jonathan,

Education users are created in the Laserfiche Directory Server like other types of users. You can find detailed information and instructions in the help files linked here. Hope this helps!

Sounds like you want to create a security Group in the Laserfiche Administration Console for these types of users. In other words they are not admins, finance, purchasing, etc.

The fastest way to add users to use the 'Windows Accounts' option:

You can pull in users from AD that way. Of course, that would need to be configured first.

The other thing to consider is if you are using LFDF or not. If so, you would want to create the user in LFDS first and then ALSO create them in Admin Console. Not sure what your setup is, but if you are using Forms, you may want to consider setting up LFDS. Trust me, it is the easier, softer way.
