Question

File Sizes Compare

asked on September 4, 2020 Show version history

Looking at adding a small process for a client when documents come into Laserfiche.  I have a table that lists the file types that get put in Laserfiche and their average size (say 3000KB).

When that file type gets put in Laserfiche workflow is going to check the size of the file, compare it to the known size, and it there is +- 15% someone gets an email.  I then save that file size in a table and when the next one comes in I compare the new one to the previous one.  So on and so forth.

Question about sizes in LF.  Here I have a CSV in Windows:

After importing the csv to Laserfiche:

File size as found by workflow:

Google of bytes to MB:

So nothing is really matching up.

I assume if I do this I need to get starting examples of every file type and import them.  Use the Laserfiche number as found in Workflow as the base to do the calculations.  Just wondering about the various sizes of things.  It wont just be csv files but .dat files as well.

Thanks,

Chris

A megabyte is measured either as 1000 KB or 1024 KB (and a KB can be measured as either 1000 B or 1024 B).

The Google calculation is using the former, Laserfiche and Windows is using the latter:
