Question

Is there a way to copy Import Agent settings to a new server?

asked on September 2, 2020

Around Version 10, Import Agent's settings locations were changed from the registry, where it was easy to copy, to XML files. You would think that would make it easier to move IA sessions from one machine to another, but we have not found that to be the case.

You can copy the XML files to the same location on the new server, and even copy the registry keys, but the new instance of IA will not see the sessions.

It does not happen often, but we have had to recreate everything from scratch.

Did we miss the memo? Is there a way to copy  transfer Import Agent sessions from one machine to another?

That is odd, I feel like I have migrated plenty of both the registry and XML versions of import agent to new operating systems without issue. If you create a new test profile, does it generate the new XML file in the same folder you moved your previous profiles to?

Yesterday, using two machines we:

-- Created a test profile

-- Exported the new registry key

-- Copied the xml file from programData\Lasefiche\Import Agent\Sessions

--Moved the key and session file to machine 2

--Added the key to the registry and placed the file in the same relative location

-- Restarted the service

The test profile did not show up. I am wondering if the machine needs to be rebooted for IA to recognize the foreign profile.

Oh I meant creating a test profile on Machine 2, without moving anything. Does it put the XML file in the same location you migrated the previous XML files to, right along side them?

I found the trick

-- In the Config tool, stop the service

-- Unload the Config Tool

-- Reload the Config Tool (The new session showed up)

-- Start the service

yes

Yes, if you create a new profile on the second machine, it will place the xml file in the same location in ProgramData. The problem we are trying to solve is the case where we have a new server and don't want to recreate all of the profiles by hand.
