Question

Viewing .heic files

asked on August 30, 2020

A client has asked about importing the Apple .heic photo files. When importing via Import Agent or drag n drop, no laserfiche pages are generated. You can still view the image in it's native application but the client wants to be able to view the files within the LF client.

Has anyone been able to achieve this?

Because .heif/.heic files are not native MS formats, there is not a built in conversion that Laserfiche can use (like there is for bmp, jpeg, gif, etc.).  This means that to get them into the LF Repository as a TIFF, you would need to develop a way to convert them.

One way to approach this would be to use Workflow to convert the file, but it would require some fairly involved programming.  One free conversion utility you could use with Workflow to do the conversion is ImageMagick.
