Question

Office Integration 10.4

asked on August 28, 2020

Has anyone had issues with Office Integration 10.4?

I just added the test laptop to our domain after updating the drivers and Windows 10.  I added the user to the laptop as an admin and then logged onto the domain as the user. I dropped a Google Chrome shortcut on the desktop and then launched the Laserfiche web client.  I proceeded through the repository to open the file that we were testing with and then selected the  option to edit with Microsoft Excel.  I was prompted to download the LfWebOffice104.exe file.  After the file downloaded, I closed Laserfiche, opened the downloads folder and right-clicked and chose to the Run as administrator option.

I went back into Laserfiche, selected the file and then chose to Edit with Excel.  Excel opens with a blank spreadsheet and has Macro1 on the tab at the bottom.  When I close Excel, I get prompted with ‘Want to save your changes to ‘Book1’?’ and I select Don’t Save.  I do get this error back in Laserfiche.

I closed Laserfiche web client and proceeded to open Excel.  I see that the add-in is not present so I go to the File, options and select Add-ins. The Laserfiche Excel Add-in is listed under the Inactive Application Add-ins.  I go to Manage the COM Add-ins and the Laserfiche Excel Add-in is there but not checked.  I select it and then select OK.  The Add-in still doesn’t show.  When I go back in to the COM Add-ins, and click on the Laserfiche Excel Add-in, the Load Behavior states “Not loaded.  A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in.

I guess I am stuck at this point.

Between Laserfiche Office Integration 10.4.2 RTM and 10.4.2 Update 1, a change was made that now requires the Microsoft VC++ 2019 runtime library. Please download and install both the x86 and x64 versions from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads and then re-enable the addin. We are working on addressing the missing pre-req in the installer.

Update:

Okay.  I have done a little more testing.  I tried installing just the 10.4.0 Office integration since I still have the installer on my server.  However, same issues as before.

I then moved back to the RIO 10.3 installer but for some reason, the office integration piece gives an error when trying to install.  I even tried downloading a new install package for 10.3 and it gives the same error.

I then moved on back to the RIO 10.1 installer (I feel sort of like a time traveler now).  I ran the Autorun.exe as administrator and selected the Windows client.  I then deselected everything but the Laserfiche Office Integration (version 10.1.1.320).  It installed as expected.  I then proceeded to open the  Laserfiche web client and proceed to do the steps we performed earlier and IT WORKED!  I was able to open the document, select the Edit with Excel option and the document opened in Excel.  I edited the document and it saved the changes back into Laserfiche as expected.

I am thinking there is definitely a bug with the 10.4 Office Integration piece.

I have a user having this same problem. It seems to only open the blank spreadsheet when trying to open a previously opened file. If the user tries to launch a file that has not previously been opened, then the spreadsheet launches as it should with no extra blank pages.

Any solutions to this problem? I am experiencing the same issue for a handful of users including myself.
