Question

Changing the Expiration on Direct Share to be more than 7 days.

asked on August 25, 2020

Is there a way to change the Share Expiration on Documents shared via Direct Share to more than 7 days?

We cannot seem to find this is the documentation and 7 days is not acceptable for many clients.

see attached results when trying to set this to 30 days.

thanks,

Milton

Hi Milton,

Well, I can help you on the documentation front. It's right here: https://doc.laserfiche.com/laserfiche.documentation/english/docs/Default.htm#Printing_and_Exporting.htm

That said, I'd love to hear more about your scenario requiring the content being shared for longer than 7 days. The 7 day limit was a conscious decision to balance providing enough time for someone to access and download their content, while not leading to an ever-growing block of already accessed documents sitting on the Cloud server and using up space. Our research suggested that 7 days was sufficient for people to receive the email directing them to the shared content, access it, and download it onto their system. Can you speak more to scenarios where this isn't sufficient? Thanks!

In this Case its a City and they are Providing Public Records Requests. Since the Person Paid Money for the Info the City Officials feel they should be able to access it for longer than just 7 days.

In your answer you were not specific as to if the value can be changed. Documentation says 7 days max.

Hi Milton, keep in mind that the time frame is only limiting being available for download for 7 days. The user can obtain it during that time and have access indefinitely. Is there a concern that the person who explicitly requested the record will then not get around to even going to download it in that time period? That said, I can see your case, and will keep it in consideration if we look into future updates to this.

To your second question, yes, you can change it to be a shorter amount. As the documentation notes, it is 7 days max.

Hello,

Is there anyway to increase this to more than 7 days? Have a customer who would like this expiration increased. Please let me know.

Thanks.

The maximum allowed expiration timeframe is tied to the product tier. Customers on Business or higher tiers with Direct Share will have this available up to 30 days, instead of 7.
