Question

Licensing Laserfiche Server in a Clustered Environment

asked on August 10, 2020

Hello,

As the documentation, it is recommended to create 2 seperate license files in LFDS for each Cluster node. But I have migrated from avante so we are assigning 25 users to the license but cannot do the same for the other node as we dont have enough users.

Is there any workaround for this issue, knowing that I want to keep all laserfiche users without doing any modifications to the current configuration.

Thanks.

Are you referring to clustering the Laserfiche Server, or Directory Server? Can you share the documentation you referenced?

When clustering Directory Server (active-passive failover, not usable for load balancing), you use the same database, and thus the same license, for all nodes. There is no subdividing of users.

When using Directory Server, you should not be allocating user licenses to the Laserfiche Server at all, regardless of whether you are clustering. If you currently have repository users, you can migrate them to Laserfiche users within Directory Server. Allocating licenses to a Laserfiche Server is allowed for legacy setups, but not recommended.

If you wish to keep users as repository users rather than migrating them to LFDS, you will likely need additional user licenses to support the environment described.

I am referring to clustering LF server. As I understood from your reply, I will have to migrate the users from LF server to LFDS.

Thank you.
