Feature Request: Manually Trigger Maintenance Operations

posted on August 7, 2020

Hello,

I know that the repository maintenance will try to run every 10 minutes or so during the configured Maintenance Window, however, it is also seems to be limited to only running once every 24 hours. Normally this isn't an issue.

However, in an "emergency" situation where drives are filling up quickly, you'd need to know 24 hours in advance to be confident that deleting anything from the repository will make a difference, and anticipating that can be challenging when day-to-day growth fluctuates wildly.

I know there are performance hits associated with the maintenance operation, but in a tight spot it would be really helpful to have the "last resort" option to override the schedule and force the maintenance to run on-demand even if it was outside of the window or within 24 hours of the last run.

One scenario where this would be amazingly useful: I've been importing documents in bulk from other storage, but I've made mistakes and had to delete large quantities of content. I get up the next day and virtually no space has been released overnight. It's a weekend day and I don't care about the performance hit for the next few hours. I want to run the import again, but I need the space that would recovered if the maintenance window had run to completion.
