Question

how to stop someone from turning off versions

asked on July 24, 2020

What rights/options would you need to give a user to ensure they don't accidentally turn off version control on a huge folder of documents? I already have my users pretty limited but the "Stop tracking version for new documents" is right there front and center. Thanks.

Welp, I figured this one out on my own. The setting to do this is in the Administration console. Under your specific repository, you go to Repository Options then settings. In there, you can find the Documents tab and there is a Version Tracking option.

I'm not a fan of the language used because it's a little misleading.  The option is to "Prevent users from placing documents under version control." I'm using it to prevent users from turning OFF version control. Also, the setting when you are looking at the settings node in the Admin console is called "Lock version tracking".

I feel like it would be better if the option was just called Lock version tracking across the board.

Maybe it wasn't a big deal when most people used the client, but I have almost all my users on Web Access and any new user can only use the web. When you click a folder in Web Access, the version control option is right there on the right. In the client, you have to right-click on a folder so it's kinda hidden.

Anyways, if there was an emoji for giving yourself a high five, I would use it here.

Happy Monday everyone!
