Forms - What does Submission Date mean?

posted on June 25, 2020

I have been referencing the Submission Date variable assuming it means the date that the initial form submission was made, but I am hearing from users that it doesn't match up, it seems to be the end date of the instance instead of the initial date the instance was started.

Forms will not let me see the actual value of this variable in the variables tab to see if it matches up with the start of the process or the end of the process.

Submission sounds like the start to me.

Instance Start date is the date/time the instance was started (initial form was submitted). Submission date is updated after each submission so it's the most recent time a form was submitted in the process. If a submission is the final step before the end event, the submission date would line up with the end date of the process.

Ah ok, this explains why it didn't match up, its more like the date that all users are done with all their submissions then. Almost like end of the process.

Found Start Date and swapped it out.
