Question

Automated exporting/backup forms (XML)

asked on June 25, 2020

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is any way to backup/download the forms xml files in a batch/ automated method? Rather then clicking each form individually to download a form. We have had an instance where form process got deleted and required a complete rebuild.

We do backup the forms Database and can restore from that, but that would restore everything rather than an individual component.

Would like an ability to batch download all the form XML's and possibly have it scheduled to send or download and store in a location for continuity purposes.

Thanks

We have a workaround for this. As part of the process to migrate legacy Forms cloud customers to process automation, we released a KB article with instructions and a process that contains a script to download all processes out of the Forms server. Go to the KB link below, download the zip file, and import the Download Process XML to your Forms server. When you start that process, the starting form has a button to Download All which will download a zip file with all processes that user has rights to.

The problem you might run into is that downloading the process XML doesn't download any of the data or history of the process. Someone might be able to help you with a script to automate the download, but restoring the database back to before the delete will get that process data and process history back whereas uploading the backup XML will not.

Thanks Jared. I mainly need the xml form design and not worried about the data or history of the process.

In regards to db backup, is there any capability to restore portions of the db vs the whole thing? IE restore just forms or specific forms instead of the entire DB?

No, you can only restore the full database

One thing you can do is install Forms on a random server and point it to your backup db. Download the missing process out of that and then upload it into your main server.

Hello,

Are there any plans to address these issues in future versions of Forms? A batch download with or with out histories would be helpful.
