Custom Form Themes

asked on June 24, 2020

Is it just me or does the forms theme feature not work as expected? So we have a custom theme we use for all our forms, when i make a change to it (ie change the logo or background color) then save it (overwrite exiting them) that change does not show up on all the other forms on our server (which are using the same theme).

Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? Am i misunderstanding how themes were designed to work? Because if I am it seems like updating forms will be a huge pain if you have to update them each individually.

When you save a custom theme, you are saving a template that can be used to apply to your forms. If you change the theme manually and save a new custom theme or save over an existing custom theme, the saved template updates, but it doesn't touch any of the forms. A process designer needs to go and re-apply the custom theme for the changes to take affect.

This is done because not all users have access to modify all processes. If you have a user that is given process admin rights to a single process, they'd have the ability to save over a custom theme and change all the other forms that use it. This might break other forms that the user shouldn't have had access to.

That is good to know Jared. Would it be possible to implement a feature for Administrative templates that could be created and maintained by a Forms administrator and made available to the various processes? It would allow a process admin the ability to still create their own, but also choose from a higher level template that when updated by a system administrator gets updated automatically. Just a thought.

It's definitely possible and something in our feature request list. It just hasn't been prioritized yet.
