Issues with Preserving PDF annotations

asked on June 17, 2020

I have a set of users who are importing PDFs into the repository and these pdfs will have pdf annotations (text boxes and rectangles) . What we are seeing is that on occasions Laserfiche will alter the current annotations on the Electronic File (example below) and rectangles on the Laserfiche Pages are converted into rectangles with  white fill and the borders are set at 0% opacity. The latter creates the appearance that no annotations exists at all and we have to manually go to each annotation and adjust the display settings (even checking the default settings box does nothing).

Is there something we can adjust or a better way of importing PDFs and preserving their annotations?

Here is an example. The image on the left is the original PDF uploaded into Laserfiche and the image on the right is what it looks like when we export the electronic file.

Below is an example of how Laserfiche converts the rectangles box used in adobe. The  box is pretty much invisible, I would have to change the opacity to at least 50% and remove the fill color to see the box and text it surrounds.

Hi Lawrence,

I don't believe Laserfiche should alter the actual annotations on the electronic file itself, however, it can alter annotations if you are converting from PDF to native Laserfiche documents (TIFF pages).

Based on your screenshots, it looks like what you're doing is importing PDF documents and using the settings to convert the PDF into TIFF pages and annotations into Laserfiche Annotations.

If you don't require the annotations to remain editable, I'd suggest you try disabling that option to allow Laserfiche to flatten the annotations as part of the generated page image instead.

I will give that a try but I thought without that option checked Laserfiche would ignore the annotation completely. Which does not present a huge problem but if that changes the way it handles annotations, compared to now, it would be a good thing.

Laserfiche definitely in our setup alters those annotations on the electronic file. That screenshot is simply me exporting the electronic file and the difference is shown
