Question

Repository User Authentication vs. LFDS User Authentication

asked on May 28, 2020

If I create a repository user in the repository and give them all rights and privledges, I am able to sign in to the repository with that user without giving them a license. If I try to do the same thing with a Laserfiche user created in LFDS with all the same settings, I get an error message. Why does it behave differently?

LFDS users are more like Windows authenticated users. They need to be trusted for login to the repository in addition to having appropriate rights.

What is the error message?

Miruna, I failed to mention that I do have the LFDS account set to Trust: allow access. Neither the LFDS user or repository user were added to any additional groups. Below is the error:

Was the user granted a full user license in LFDS?

No, neither user was granted a license.

I'm guessing the repository user has Manage Trustees so it gets in on one of the 2 license-free administrative sessions. Or if both have been granted Manage Trustees, you already have 2 administrative sessions in use, so the LFDS user can't get in that way.

Either way, a "normal" user always needs a license, either applied to the user in LFDS or reserved in the LF server license and applied at the repository level.

Miruna, both users were given all rights and privileges and there were no other users logged into the repository or administration console.

Then it's time for a support case so we can take a closer look.
