Waiting on a Invoke Workflow task

asked on May 20, 2020 Show version history

I have multiple workflows that use an Invoke Workflow task to call other workflows that build our student and employee folders within our repository.  We have used this for a long time but it has come to my attention that several instances across several different workflows have a "Waiting" status and the common denominator seems to be on the Invoke workflow for either the create employee record or the create student record tasks.  We recently updated to Workflow 10.4 in April.  In each case only two variables are being passed, the associated ID (pulled from a previous query task)  and the initial workflow name which is a static variable on each workflow.  We did do a complete stack restart this morning and instances started today have completed successfully.  We have done the routine troubleshooting techniques of restarting workflow and subscriber and updating the task within a workflow to not wait for the invoked workflow to finish running, even disabled the task and published the change to all running instances.  Anyone have any idea how to get the task Jared loose so the rest of the workflow can process?

It's hard to guess. There should be a link to the child workflow on the Details tab. You can look at it and see whether it's completed.

Thank you for your response but I don't seem to be able to find an associated link.  I looked in both designer and the web interface, including pics of the web interface as it is the only one with a details tab.  Any guidance on how to find it would be helpful as there are no instances of the child workflow running and all of the recent ones have completed successfully.

In the desktop designer, look on the Details tab. There should be a link to the child workflow

Miruna,

I appreciate your assistance with this but I looked at about a dozen different instances in several different workflows and the Detail tab displays the same in all of them, I am enclosing the first two screenshots as not to clutter the feed.  I tried selecting that task so the properties were displayed on the right side and the details all show the initiation link, not the invoke workflow as your screenshot shows:

Hm, that's...interesting. That might an indication of something wrong with your database as the data doesn't look consistent. It would be best to contact your reseller and open a case with Tech Support.
