Question

Multi-line max characters not enforced

asked on May 12, 2020

When setting the Character Limit to 240 in a multi-line item in Forms, users are still able to enter more than said amount.  How can one limit the amount of characters a user inputs into a multi-line item?

Figured out I was working with two separate forms (someone else built this process).

The first, which I missed allowed for 2000 characters, hence the ability to enter the 1000 characters.  The approval form was the one I changed from 240 to 1000.

In the end it was a design flaw when the process was created, allowing 2K chars in a request form, but only allowing 240 chars in the approval form.

Thanks for replying Xiuhong.

What version of Forms are you using? How many characters can the user enter? Can you share the content user entered?

Laserfiche Forms version 10.1.0.690

I'm not sure of the maximum amount a user can enter, per Laserfiche documentation it defaults to 20,000.

I tested with 1000 characters.  Just copied and pasted "This is to test character limit." over and over until I got to 1000. I used MS Word to show the amount of characters.

We had the Character Limit on the multi-line set to 244.  Forms still let me enter the the 1000 characters in said multi-line. I submitted the form but when I opened it as an approver, I could only see the first 244 characters.

I then upped the Character Limit to 1000 and now when it gets to the approver it shows the entire 1000 characters.

However, we would like to be able to control the amount of text the user enters. Is that possible?
